UPS Power Options - Error 2481

I'm setting up a new computer running XP Pro. The UPS tab is not available
in Power Options of the Control Panel. The computer and monitor is plugged
into an APC Back-UPS ES750 and connected from the UPS data port to the
computer's USB port. I have NOT installed APC's software and would prefer to
use XP's UPS management.

I went to Admin Services, switched the UPS Start-Up type to "Automatic" and
attempted to start the service. I get the following error message:
"Could not start the UPS service on Local Computer. Error 2481: The UPS
service is not configured correctly." I also tried shutting down then
restarting the UPS device and computer, but get the same error message.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the response. I wouldn't even think about firing up a new one
with using a UPS. I've never run into a situation where the UPS tab was not
available in Windows XP Power Management, and I've only used APC's software
one time before, but APC could have changed that. I ran out of time and went
ahead and installed their software. I'm sure it will be fine, but IMO the XP
UPS Power Management was less intrusive and just one less utility to boot up
at start up. Thanks again.
