UPS Set-up

I am trying to initiate the UPS function (through Control
Pnael - Admin Tools - Services).
All I get is a message : "Error 2481:the UPS service is
not configured correctly".

Looking at the microsoft site, on articles
I get the following recomendation in Q186541:

"Error 2481
The UPS service is not configured correctly.
Action: Follow these steps to configure a UPS:
Click Start, click Settings, and then point to Control
Panel.
Double-click Power Options.
Click the UPS tab.
Click Select.
Choose the manufacturer that you wish to configure, and
then click Finish."

Unfortunately this support message does not provide any
assistance, since in the manufacturer list I only get two
makers, "APC" and "Other".
I choose other and get the above error message.

Are there any recomendations ?

This may not help, but I have an APC BACK-UPS installed on my system. It
uses the APC UPS Service rather than the Windows UPS Service to manage its
use. If I go to configure the Windows UPS Service (in the Power Options) it
only lists COM ports for managing the UPS. Since mine is connected via USB,
the Windows UPS Service wouldn't help much. Perhaps this is the same problem
with yours?

Mine is also connected via USB. It looks a similar problem, but I am not sure
whether it is a USB option or a total UPS service malfunction of the OS. I
have a MGE UPS.

Well, the error message you receive is the same one I would get when
activating the Windows UPS Service because the UPS service isn't configured
properly. Because you can't configure it (due to use of USB), then you have
to rely on the software that comes with your UPS (if your UPS comes with
such software, that is). The APC one does, and it manages everything
necessary so I needn't worry about the Windows UPS Service at all. Have you
checked on software from MGE here:
http://www.mgeups.com/download/softlib.htm ? Perhaps that's all you need.
