Upper and Lower CD ROM Filters Missing

I've been all over the Internet and I've seen how to delete these filters
but I've found nothing on how to restore them to the registry. Are they on
the Windows XP CD? Are these filters needed?

Upper and Lower filter drives are specific to the application you use.
If you uninstall a burning application and the filter drivers are orphaned
then you need to remove them. They aren't required to use the built-in
CD Burning capability of XP.

Could you please describe the problem you are having?
Are you receiving errors? What are they?

At one point the CD-R drive was missing from Windows but I restored it using
the Microsoft Fix-It Tool. The drive works fine but I noticed the filters
are missing from the registry.

I have a number of burning apps so I'm not sure which one would have
installed the filters. CD burning is working fine without them.

Too bad you did not save a copy (export) those registry values before you deleted them.
That would have made a easy fix.
Now go back to those sites that told you how to remove the registry lines and do just the opposite.

This is not a suggestion but just a comment...

Personally...I wouldn't be concerned about
the filters if no problems were evident. If a
program requires them I suspect they will
be replaced.

If you haven't seen the following article it may
be worth a look:

(314060) Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing
or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
