Problem installing program

D

DaffyD®

I tried installing a program this morning and got the message: "You do not
have access to make the system configuration modifications. Please rerun
this installation from an administrator's account." I am an administrator
so I shouldn't get this message. Also the program was installed as I wanted
it to be anyway even though the next part of the message said it was a
partial install. This hasn't happened with any other program I've installed.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Sounds like the install tried to replace a dll file in use to me. There
are a very few registry modifications that the administrator can't
change either. Although the administrator can change the permissions to
such parts of the registry and then make the changes. Always best to
change the permissions back though, I guess.

Thanks. I'm new to Windows XP and I'm not totally sure about how to set
permissions.

It sounds like you are ok anyway. But if you want to try it again, boot
in safe mode and uninstall the program and then reinstall it again in
safe mode again. Hopefully it should install without a problem.
