UPnP troubleshoot

I'm having some problems getting UPnP to work properly.

I have a Netgear Wireless MR814 version 1 router.

I have 2 PCs, both running XP Home fully updated. A desktop is connected
via ethernet and a laptop is connected via a Netgear MA401 wireless NIC
(802.11b).

Both have UPnP and SSDP services set to automatic and the services are
started on both PCs.

Both PCs have the Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client
installed according to add/remove windows components section.

The router has it's UPnP feature enabled.

On both PCs, in my network places, a listing for the MR814 appears. If I
disable UPnP on the router, it does not, so I know XP is seeing something
with UPnP.

On the desktop (wired), in network connections, there is an Internet
Gateway Connection icon. On the laptop (wireless), that icon doesn't
appear. If I connect the laptop via ethernet, then the icon does appear.

Why doesn't it appear when it's wireless? How do I get it to appear? Is
UPnP still working even though the laptop doesn't get this icon? Did
Microsoft disable this icon on wireless connections only for security
reasons?

Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Not sure if this is much help but...

I can confirm that if you have TWO desktop computers connected to a uPnP
enabled router by wire then both magically get an Internet Gateway
Connection in Network Connections (eg You would expect all computers on the
LAN to get it).

Could it be because both accounts on my PCs are Admin accounts (eg Is the
account on your laptop a limited user?)

The Internet Gateway in Network Connections is a mystery to me. I have
wireless connections that nevery had an Internet Gateway that with a
recent Windows Update or MSN Messenger "micro-version update" now have
one. The Linksys router has always had UPnP enabled. There are no
services enabled in the Intenet Gateways. Frankly, since everything
works as it should on all of my LAN computers, I have decided to let the
mystery play itself out since the presence or absence of the gateway
connection is inconsequential.

These two pages ty to explain things but...

....they just left me more confused than ever.

By default, the Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control Client is
installed, whereas UPnP is not. In this default configuration, an Internet
Connection icon appears in the Network Connections folder, and a Broadband
Router icon does not appear in the My Network Places folder.

Not sure but perhaps the "Internet Gateway Device Discovery and Control
Client" needs one of the following?

XP Pro?
SP1?
The advanced networking pack for SP1?

Nope. My ethernet connected PC is XP Home and running all the same
patches as the wirelessly connected PC that doesn't get the icon.
