Upnp - internet connection icon in system tray

Is there any way to keep the "internet connection" icon in system tray, (in
addition to the LAN icon), without having Upnp switched on in the router ?

If I turn off upnp in my router, the "internet connection" con in system
tray disappears. It seems the only way to keep it there is to have upnp
switched on. As far as I know I don't need upnp i.e. as far as I know I
don't have any software that needs to "automatically" open ports.

Also with upnp on, in network conenctions an "Internet Gateway / Internet
Connection" icon is present. It's not there if upnp is switched off, and of
course if it's not there.

I've Googled and seen suggestions that this is a bug / inadequacy in
Windows, and I saw a registry tweak go by !

....anyone know any more about the mysteries of Universal Plug & Play ?

regards, Richard

It isn't on here, and I have the connection Icon in the tray.

Make sure you have the box ticked to display the Icon:

Network Connections: right click the connection, choose Properties.
