Uploading problems--codec error

I've created a Movie Maker video, saved it in both .wmv and .avi formats.
I've uploaded it using my website's site builder tools and through a FTP
program. The files transfer but during playback I'm informed there's a codec
error, like some kind of compression took place and Windows Media Player
can't support it. Any ideas?

Is playback on the same computer as made the movie in movie maker?
Which version did you upload to the net? I assume the wmv as it is much
smaller.
What settings did you choose to make this version?
What are the ftp tools you used?
