Codec not found

Have converted Kodak .mov files to .avi files using OJOSoft Total Video
Converter.
When attempting to import into Movie Maker, I am told that the codec could
not be down loaded. It seems that MM goes to the WWW before looking at
installed codecs. I have downloaded codec packs etc and am pretty sure that
somewhere in the many codec files on my system the correct one exists.
Does MM look locally before going to the WWW?
Can anyone help?

AVI and WMV are not codecs.... they are types that can contain files
compressed with many different codecs, some that work with Movie Maker and
many that don't.

Check my website's Import Movie Source Files > Video section for info about
conversions when heading to those that work in Movie Maker.

========================================
There are many types of .avi files and some are not
compatible with Movie Maker.

The free Quick Media Converter may be worth a try:

Quick Media Converter
http://tinyurl.com/a35y6n
or...
http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=92&Itemid=72

Open the program.

Drag / Drop the .mov file into the program

Click the WMV icon on the tool bar

Choose...Windows Media Player format .wmv (custom resize)

Click...Start Conversion button
