Upgrading XP Home to XP Pro - hangs on first reboot

I have a Gateway 710X with 2 gig ram, 250gig hard drive, NVidia Geforce
FX5950 video card with 256 Ram and am trying to upgrade to Windows XP Pro. I
have wipe the hard drive clean with a utility from Gateway and have try to
Install XP Pro. The system seems to install fine with no errors but when it
reboots it hangs with the Windows logo and the moving bar below the logo.
The bar also hangs. The system will not reboot with a ctrl-alt-del. You
must remove power. I have also tried to use all the options when you press
F8 on start but all of the will hang. When I use the safe mode to command
prompt it hangs with MUP.SYS showing at the last item. I have remove all
the PCI cards except the Video card mentioned above but still the same
results. Going to try a different video card tonight but does any one have
any ideals why the system is hanging. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the post. There is quite a lot of info there. I read a couple
and will try them. Looks like a great web site. Will use it in the future.
Thanks again for the info.
