upgrading win98 to XP pro error

When I try to upgrade win98 se to win xp pro i get an
error that states:
"The file C:\$WIN_NT$\~LS\i386\asms\1000
\MSFT\WINDOWS\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.Cat is corrupt: it contains
all zeroes."

I looked at the one on the upgrade cd and compaired it to
the one in the above directory. The first few hundred
chars on the c drive are blank while the one on the cd
looks valid. The dates and sizes match. This error will
not let me upgrade. Anyone have any suggestions?

Try copying the I386 folder to your hard drive, and run WINNT32.EXE from there.
