I have 2 computers at home. My main computer has Windows
XP Home and the other Windows ME. I would like to
upgrade the main computer from XP Home to XP Pro, and
then use the replaced XP Home license on the ME
computer. Am I allowed to do that?

Thank you.

No. When you upgrade from XP Home to XP Pro, the license
for XP Home is combined with the upgrade license for XP Pro
and forms one license. The only exception is if one were to
upgrade XP Home using a "Full Retail Version" of XP Pro
and not upgrade using the "Retail Upgrade Version" of XP Pro.

Additionally, new computers that have Windows XP preinstalled
are "OEM Versions" of Windows XP and that license is non-
transferable to a different computer.

Please open XP's "Help and Support Center" and type: EULA
in the Search box, then click on "Questions and answers about
the End User License Agreement".

According to MS, no. The Home license becomes part of the upgrade.
However, unless you tell MS what you did........

To do so you would have to use a 'Full' version CD of Pro, not an
upgrade where you have to retain the earlier product in support. And
the present Home would have to be a retail version, not one of the OEM
ones that are licensed solely to the machine where first installed.

Before anything See
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_home_pro.asp
for the list of things that are in Pro only. In addition Pro will
support ten simultaneous connections in a network - Home only five

If you see no need for any of these Pro only matters there is nothing
for you in changing to it, so stick with XP Home and buy a Home upgrade
for the ME machine
