I just updated my mom's computer to windows xp. Now the hard drive light
stays on at all times. The hard drive isn't running all the time but the
light always stays on now. It worked fine before in windows 98. If I
uninstall xp the light goes back to working normally. Has anyone else had
this problem?

Hi,

A new installation of WindowsXP will have the indexing service running. For
a time (could be days or weeks, depending on usage), the system will be
busy. Once it has settled and done its job, things should return to normal.
It should not interfere greatly with performance, but may cause some lag at
first. You can disable it on the general properties of the drive if you wish
to stop it.
