Upgrading from NT4 to XP

Mike Goodson

Does anyone know if you can "disable" the System Compatibility check upon
starting the XP upgrade? I know in NT you can put a switch in that would
skip the check.

When the System Compatibility check runs I get a "Shuttle Sharer Parallel
Port Storage Device" stop on the list and therefore I cannot continue
installation. I do not ever remember having this device on my PC, I cannot
find anything to uninstall and I cannot see anything in the registry. I have
shedloads of applications so a clean installation is out of the question.

Please help!!

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

The compatibility checker is there for a reason.
You should either resolve the issue you are having now - or just perform a
full clean install.

Mike,

My point was that if your system is being identified as having an issue now
before you install the Windows XP upgrade how can you expect the system to
be stable or operable post upgrade.
The compatibility checker is there to eliminate as many problems as possible
prior to upgrade.
If you bypass it then your system is not guaranteed to be ok post upgrade
and you will be calling support and posting here with problems that you
should not have or may not be possible to solve since you forced an upgrade
on a non compatible system.
So you should concentrate your efforts on either solving your obvious
problem as reported by the compatibility checker prior to upgrade or just
perform a clean install and recover you data and reinstall your
applications.

Ran into this very problem yesterday. I was upgrading an NT4 OS t
Win2K. There was an HP 5200 scanner attached to the system. I had t
go into DEVICES and stop the service and then disconnect the scanner.
After that the upgrade worked perfectly.

Hope this help
