UPGRADING FROM HOME XP TO PRO XP

can anyone tell me when upgrading your home version xp to
pro xp, does any of the settings change?
for example, if you buy a computer with home xp on it and
upgrade it to pro xp, would you have any trouble with the
configurations?

An upgrade installs retains setting, files, programs, etc.
A clean installs wipes all data and installs xp fresh, keeping nothing from
previous install.

Why not buy the computer with XP Pro on it in the first place?

You would have some minor settings put back to default. Eg wallpaper
and desktop layout, and the various eye-candy effects in System. . .
Visual effects would turn on. I would also check Firewall to be on, and
any personal preferences in Folder Options - View
