Upgraded XP home to PRO, but still have a 5 user limit concurrent

I have a customer who had a machine in is office with XP home Edition.
Because he had several other computers in the network and the home version
can't handle more that 5 users sessions, he bought XP professional (retail)

We follow the upgrade option, in order to avoid to format everything, and no
problem arised during that phase.

The problem is that even after the upgrade, XP professional still only
accept 5 users sessions.

If we issue the comand net config server, we get the Maxmimum number of
users as being 5 when it should have beed upgraded to 10 (thats the value we
get on all other machines).

So basicly it seem to have upgraded everything wiht exception of what we
really needed.

Does anyone knows how to solve this without have to format and do a clean
install.

Being that you have a retail version you are entitled to free support
from Microsoft. I suggest that you call Microsoft and ask them for
support. How the concurrent user limits are applied in XP Home vs XP
Pro is a pretty well guarded secret and trying to fix this without a
clean install may be quite difficult, your best bet is probably to
obtain support directly from Microsoft. Then come back here and tell us
how it was fixed!

Actually thier is no "upgrade" from xp home to xp pro,the upgrade is for
older
windows OS.To install xp pro from home, one must do a new installation (boot
to xp pro cd),delete the partition, create one, then let xp format &
install.Microsoft
has never supported the upgrade from home to pro...

There is an upgrade from Home to Pro and just because the odd upgrade
fails once in a while it doesn't make your stupid comments true. You
have never, ever, once substantiated your claim that Microsoft doesn't
support this and on countless occasions you have been shown statements
by Microsoft that this is a supported upgrade path. Why do you still
post your rubbish? Are you really that stupid?

I'm sorry not to agree with you.

If there is a button there saying UPGRADE...then it is an option created by
Microsoft.
If it was not suposed to exist...I presume they wouldn't put it there.

Also if the option apears...That means that the routine detects that in the
HD there is an inferior version and therefore one may want to update.

As far as I can see, this is a BUG.

Andrew E. has constantly posted this incorrect information and not once,
I repeat *not once* has he ever been able to substantiate his statement!
In the past he has posted things like this:

"If you chk any microsoft division TechNet,MSDN,etc They specifically
say thier is no upgrade from home to pro,the upgrade is for older
windows OS."

http://groups.google.com/groups?as_...81&as_maxd=22&as_maxm=8&as_maxy=2007&safe=off

Yet he cannot provide a single link to any article on these sites that
support his statement, he can't because nowhere on those sites is such
rubbish posted. Countless times he has been pointed to Microsoft
articles that completely discredit his claims and countless times he has
been asked to provide links and proof of his claims and the only proof
he has ever been able to provide is that he is a stupid f'ing idiot!

It really isn't true that XP Home is inferior to XP pro. It just doesn't
have some
of the XP features. Home is also cheaper than Pro.
As far as I can see, this is a BUG.
Really? You expect MS to hold your hand?
If you really know that you need a certain feature which is present in XP
Pro but not in XP Home, you would not need such a
cosmetic device to tell you to upgrade.

Does the System Properties window confirm that XP Pro is installed?
Right-click "My Computer" and select Properties.

Yes...Windows XP PRO is instaled. and all the network and share options
features specific to XP PRO are there.

The only thing that did not change was the numer of maximum concurent users
that should now be 10, but still is 5.
