XP Home to XP Pro upgrade

I have a practically brand new PC that came with Windows XP Home installed.
I decided to upgrade it to XP Professional. During the Installing Windows
phase of the upgrade it prompts me for the Windows XP Professional CD 2,
which didn't come with the upgrade. If I click OK, it states "Some files on
Windows XP Professional CD 2 are needed. Insert Windows XP Professional CD 2
into the drive selected below, and then click OK. Copy files from:
D:\cmpnents\mediactr\i386"

It seems as though it's wanting to upgrade to XP Media Center Edition, but
why? My upgrade CD clearly says Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. The
computer came with XP Home, not Media Center Edition, and I sure haven't
installed the Media Center Edition on it.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks,

Rob

If you purchased xp pro with SP2 installed on the cd,and you have xp home
edition installed. Then one needs to do a clean installation of pro.Simply
install
pro cd,restart computer, adjust to boot to xp cd in BIOS (priority boot
device),then
at xp info screen select, install xp,new copy, delete the partition (xp
home),create
a partition, then pro will install auto.Pro will need either a working
windows os
already installed on the hd,or the os cd to verify upgrade.Even though you
have
a "XP PRO Upgrade" cd,home doesnt upgrade to pro,the upgrade is for past
windows os....

Where did you get the XP Pro CD? It very much sounds like a Media Center
version.

Andrew;
Windows XP Pro SP-2 upgrades all previous release versions of home very
nicely.
A Clean Installation is not necessary as your incorrect information
suggests.

Cite your source for this incorrect information.
The fact Home is not listed on the Pro box is not a source.

As for my source:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/upgrading/matrix.mspx
I can also back that up with personal experience.

This is more a wishful thinking solution:
Uninstall any audio drivers, network devices in XPHome installation, reboot,
unhook audio card, joystic, WIFI... anything except KBoard and (optional)
mouse. Enter BIOS and disable Audio (if onboard), Game/Parallel, serial
ports that you don't need. Then, install XP Pro. If you are lucky, XP Pro
will install as if on a dumb terminal.
You might have more chances slipstreaming the XPPro install CD (google for
nlite) and getting rid of WMP etc.
