upgraded operating system now color laserjet doesn't work

Upgraded from Win me to XP home with sp2. I can load drivers for color
laserjet 5 and when I send something to print the data light flashes, but
nothing prints. I have reloaded the port and the drivers many times. I cannot
print from notepad or the dos prompt. any suggestions besides possibly
getting a usb to centronics adapter. I was able to set up a plotter from the
usb port but not from the parallel port.

Since this is an LPT device, you're not trying to piggyback it with another
parallel port device are you?

I used to have my plotter and laser go through an A-B switch box but it has
been removed since the plotter is now connected through the usb port
