upgraded my motherboard

Does anyone know, Do I have to reinstall windows xp if i
change my motherboard, because I am having trouble with
my soundcard and I was told that is what i have to do.
Is there any other way

If your having trouble with your sound card why would you need to change the
motherboard? Whats the sound card type and problem?
If you do change your motherboard, assuming this is a retail version of xp
not a pre-installed version(oem version), then you will at the very least
need to do a repair install of xp.

Sounds like he probably has integrated sound on his motherboard. If that is
the case it might be better to just buy a good soundcard instead of
replacing the whole mtoherboard. Personally I always do a clean install when
making a major hardware change, but with XP it might do a better job
detecting all the new hardware so maybe a clean install isn't necessary. You
can always try it first and if it doesn't work properly do the clean
install.

If you want an alternative to on-board or PCI peripheral sound
cards, investigate the new Audigy-NX. It is a USB unit. It is USB
2.0 and about the size of a pack of cigarettes. It is 24-Bit and has
good drivers (Creative Labs anomaly?) plus Tools/Diagnostics.
P.S. And in that same vain, if you want a tremendous Speaker set
check out Bose's new Companion 3 system ($200 US) They
finally offer a 3-piece setup that beats anything around,even
top of the line Altec-Lansings.

sorry for the misunderstaning, I already replaced the
motherboard and i have a soundblaster audigy 2zs platinum
pro. but I thought all i had to do was just reconnect
everything but I keep getting errors..(no audio
conflict) If i do a repair will I have to reformat my
harddrive is what I am asking?

all your files and such. SP1 and patches will have to be redownloaded and
installed.
Boot from the XP cd, and when prompted hit enter to begin setup. Press F8 to
accept the license agreement. It will then search and find your existing XP
install. Select it, and choose R for repair.

After changing a motherboard you should start with a repair re-install.
Power up and immediately enter BIOS setup to set date/time, check Hard
disks are detected, and while there Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard
disk, Then boot the XP CD, start Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this
stage), then after the license agreement take 'Repair Installation'.
This will retain your existing software installations and most settings.
But Updates will have to be run again, especially SP1;
It is important to activate the basic XP Firewall before you ever
connect to the net to get the patches, so as to be protected against
things like the BLAST worm.

This should retain your activation status, though if you have never
registered you may have the setup suggest it now (don't bother). But
you may nevertheless find you have made so many changes that you need to
activate again by phoning in,
