Upgrade Win 95?

I recently upgraded a Win ME computer with XP retail upgrade. I noted when
installing the software that Win 95 was included in the on screen verbiage
for what OS versions were elegible for upgrade, while the box of course said
98, 98SE and ME. I did not attempt the 95 option as I had the ME disk
available. Does it upgrade Win 95 or not? If the software does not accept
Win 95, then why does it say it will?

Thank you for your time.

You can not upgrade Windows 95 to Windows XP.
However if you have Windows XP upgrade, you can perform a Clean
Installation of Windows XP using Windows 95 as qualifying media.

Thank you for the response. I suppose that by upgrade, we mean that some of
the existing infrastructure of Windows 98, etc are retained during the
conversion to XP, but Windows 95 does not provide this support. Thus, only a
complete clean install is possible. As such, Windows 95 users can in fact
"upgrade" their operating systems to XP but will not retain any of the
existing links to programs, etc. since it requires they perform a clean
install in order to benefit from the new OS.

Thank you for your time and the information.
