Upgrade to Dual Processors

Needs some help here. We just upgraded our server (Compaq
1600) to dual processor. Reboot (extra processor detected)
and logged into Windows. Went to control
panel /system/device manager/Computer (Currently it has
Standard PC). I know that you are suppose to select the
standard pc and choose upgrade drivers. Select
Multiprocessor PC.Windows should update the HAL in 2000
and everything is good to go.

Dilemma:
I get a warning stating that selecting the option on
Multiprocessor PC could case the server to crash. I am
very very worried that if I select the multiprocessor
option and reboot and the server crashes I will have no
alternative but to reload the OS. This server is my domain
controller/dns server. Is there a way to revert back to
the standard pc option if the multiprocessor select goes
wrong?

Thanks

And then MAKE SURE by checking the HP site that
you box DOES NOT USE a proprietary MPS HAL.

Older Paq's were famous for this.

If you let the OS upgrade with the "generic" MPS HAL,
and it really needed a HP-custom one you WILL be screwed...

Copy and rename current ntoskrnl.exe and hal.dll (keep the names short in
8.3 format) before HAL upgrade and duplicate default boot line in boot.ini
file with the switches /kernel={renamed kernel.exe} /hal={renamed hal.dll}.
