Adding 2nd Processor

Having a heck of a time adding a 2nd processor to Win2K
server. The server origianlly shows Standard PC under
Device Manager. Tried ASPI multiprocessor and MPC-
multiprocessor, both don't work. One blue screens, the
other keeps re-booting. Repair install by booting with
W2K CD and repairing install. Any idea how to do this?
It is driving me crazy!!!

Thanks.

Presumably what you were doing is changing the HAL and rebooting, as
per:

HOW TO: Add Support for Multiple Processors in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;;234558

I suppose if that doesn't work then you can try an in-place upgrade to
have the install redetect the hardware (after you've added the 2nd
processor), and make sure ACPI is selected in your BIOS beforehand:

I tried a parallel installation (to a winmp folder) and
then copied the following from the new install to the old
install: ntoskrnl.exe, ntkrnlpa.exe kernel32.dll,
ntdll.dll, win32k.sys and winsrv.dll.

Again, no dice...UGH!!!, I will try the inplace upgrade
per your post and let you know.

Thanks for the help.

The inplace upgrade worked....if I had only done that
1st, I could have save ALOT of hours.

Thanks again.

I can only imagine that you didnt specify an SP folder (that matches the rev
on the server) and that is what caused this problem. I have done dozens of
upgrades, and as long as you specify source files that match the SP level of
the server, not a single problem.
