can i do an "upgrade" from Windows XP Home Edition to
Windows XP Professional? i have an OEM XP home edition
and nfr win xp pro. my laptop vendor won't provide all
the drivers and utilities to do a fresh install.

You should be able to install XP pro as an upgrade. Best
way to find out is put the xp pro cd in the drive and
follow the prompts to see if it will upgrade if not then
it'll want you to do a format.

XP home uses the same drivers as XP pro. if you have a
brand name Laptop like Toshiba or HP or Sony they have XP
drivers for everything on their web sites. your vendor
should do that for you!! if they don't thats crappy
customer service. they are just lazy. Only reason why they
don't give you the drivers is that the brand named laptops
if modified their Helpdesk wont support any OS other than
the one thats installed originally on the computer. I know
this cuz i used to be one of these Lazy "vendors".

It's an HP pavilion xt375 and no they don't have them on
their web site. also, they stopped free phone support
when my 1yr. warrenty ran out. i've never heard of such a
thing!

Yes, you can upgrade XP Home to Professional. There is no special
upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP Professional
Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't say so on the box).

But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home
and Professional are identical except that Professional includes
a few features (mostly related to security and networking)
missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use
these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.
