Upgrade from 98SE to XP Pro

Have tried to upgrade but having great difficulty. When
XP Pro installed, icons from 98SE are gone and programs
also gone from start list. Also can not uninstall Norton
System Works before installation. Any thoughts?
 
The best option is to take backup of your data and do the clean install.
