Updating Master Template

I have updated a link on my master template saved it and it has run through
the updates for all pages. Then I upload the template via FTP and it does
not show me the new update. I have tried this on and off for days now. The
new link is being shown in the preview section of Front page but not live.
What could be the reason for this?

Did you upload the other pages? DWTs are referenced at design-time. In other
words, FP will update other pages when told in the editor. The other pages
will know nothing about the DWT other than which one they belong to. So,
uploading a changed DWT won't do anything to your site. You updated your
DWT, then publish all the pages that are based on that DWT as their HTML has
been updated. It's not an automatic template action as you'd see with
various server-side content management systems, it's much more manual but it
does the job effectively and efficiently (and without a lot of expensive
server-side operation).

Hope this helps,

Mark, In the past I haven't needed to upload all the other pages. They are
all linked to the Master Template, which was designed by a professional. All
I have ever had to do was upload the Master Template once the change was made
and the changes would appear across the whole website. I also use sothink
dhtml menu and when I make changes in that I know that I have to upload ALL
html files then. However, that isn't currently updating either. When I
first tried to update the link in the Master template a week ago, FP wasn't
even updating the pages. It was saying 0 of 55 files updated. Then a few
days later it worked and said 48 of 55 files updated. I have actual spoken
to the website designer and he can't figure out why it isn't updating either.
I did try and upload a couple of HTML pages as well as the Master template
to see if they showed the new link, but they don't. I have also uploaded the
pgtres files. Any ideas? Appreciate your help.

In order for the DWT to auto update you need to be running on a Server w/ the FP 2002 SE patched to support DWT
For Win 2003 Servers See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;895193
(hotfix should be incorporated in below also)
For Win 2000 Servers See http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-017.mspx
