I am running OutlookXP which is v2002 SP3.
I am a home user with ~4 or 5 emails on a good day not including spam which
my server labels and I filter.
Is there any point in me upgrading to a newer version and if yes, then can
I download it or do I have to buy it on disc?

If emailing a handful of messages is all you do then Outlook might be
overkill for you. Microsoft Office Outlook is mainly targeted to the
corporate user (that is why it is not included in Office 2007 Home and
Student Edition). Outlook Express/Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail are more
targeted towards the home user.

If you also sync your mobile device than I would recommend sticking with
Outlook. There are of course a lot of new features in later releases (too
much to name here) and Outlook 2003 and 2007 provide a higher level of
security (Junk Email Filter, Phishing Filter, Automatic downloading
blocking, etc) but are not free downloads; you can buy it in a computer
store near you.
