is there any way to save updates to a certain disk or directory so that i
may install them with out downloading if my computer crashes?

Only if you manually download them from the MS 'corporate update' site.
The normal windows update, and autoupdate, install and delete in one
swift move, with no way of saving a copy (stupid, but true).
