All windows XP updates after installing SP2

I just loaded SP2 on my neighbor's XP computer. When I checked for updates it
listed 73 updates and a total of 8 hours of download time. This computer, of
course, has a dial up. I personally have Windows XP on my computer and I have
DSL. Is there any way that I can download these windows updates on my
computer, save them to my harddrive, and burn them to a disk to install on
the other computer. My computer is already current with all windows updates.
If this is possible, please tell me how I can do it and save them to a
special folder on my harddrive and burn them to a disk to install on my
neighbors computer. Thanks.

You can download and save all updates for later use - including service
packs. You can even integrate those patches into your Windows XP
installation CD - so if you had to reinstall - you would end up almost
fully-patched right from the beginning.

etc. That way you can back it up/burn a CD of them in case you need them or

You can see the critical (security and other) patches released for a given
month using the following:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms##-***.mspx

At the end of this line you see "ms##-***.mspx" .. If you simply replace ##
with the two-digit year and the *** with the three character month
abbreviation, you will see the list of "critical" and "important" patches
for that month (since it only happens once a month usually, if you check by
the second Tuesday (wait until afternoon) of each month - you should be
fine) - note that future months will not work.

Why not run the needed updates pc from youre home,install updates via
DSL.Otherwise,many of the updates are available at microsoft for downloading
but it would take time to do that & save to cd,you can/could get the needed
ones
from youre pc updated history.Also,73 updates dont need to be and shouldnt be
selected at 1 time,have the neighbor select some day per day (probably doesnt
want all anyway)...

Goto the M$ update site (on the computer that you want the updates
for) and copy/paste the list of updates it shows offered for that
machine. Take that list to a broadband connected computer and goto:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.aspx?displaylang=en
One at a time.... put the KBxxxxxx number in the search place and
download each update. With that many updates, M$ will require you to
prove you are not a thief a dozen or more times (once is never enough
with these Godless Bastards) so just keep proving over and over and
over and over that you are not a thief and have not started since last
having to prove so which would be no more than a minute or so since
the last time with that many updates to download.

Once you get them all, simply burn them to a CD and transfer them to
the computer they are intended for making sure that you research all
the damage some of them may/have caused other misfortunates. In other
words, don't just blindly install every one of them thinking that M$
knows what they are doing and/or has your best interest at heart.

Exactly...the OP did say this was his neighbor's PC...grab the box, hook up
the power/mouse/keyboard/network, go to Windows Update, let it
download/install everything, bring the PC back. Given the proximity, I
don't see the point of the hassle of fiddling with tracking down/downloading
individual updates, burning them, and then running them one-by-one.

If this was something the OP had to do on a regular basis, I could see the
justification of taking the time to look into the tools that exist to
automate this, but it doesn't sound like this is the case here...

Sometimes the simplest and most obvious solutions are the best ones.
