updates when not on line

[puzzled]

My wife has been given a laptop to aid her uni studies. I
do not want to network her machine to the family pc, so
how do I manage to get the service packs and upgrades
available to those online ( I do appreciate a lot of the
updates are to do with security and therefore not
required if not online)
