Updates interfere with OE6

If I install the latest update for Win XP, I find that it prevents my
sending any e-mails. When I click on "Reply", "Reply to all" or "Create
Mail" I get an error message; and can only send mail by uninstalling the
update, leaving my PC unprotected. Can anyone help, please?
Laurie.

Ronnie,
I'm not sure which update, as I have Automatic Update enabled, but I would
guess that it's the Cumultive Update for Outlok Express. The error message
is not helpful - it simply says; "An error occurred in opening this
message. An error has occurred". WWhich is pretty stupid, since the
message ia already open!

Ronnie,
I've investigated firther, and have found that it's definitely the
Cumulative Update for Outlok Express which causes the problem. Any ideas ?
Laurie.

Sorry, should have mentioned this in a previous message, I need to know the number associated with the update that is causing the problems. Look in Add or Remove Programs or on the Windows Update website, or on the name of the file, if you have it downloaded. There should be a number in parentheses similar to this. (KBxxxxxx). This number is unique for all updates and is needed when trying to track issues.

You might also consider posting this message on the Outlook Express newsgroup since they will be more informed about any issues that effect that product.

Update to previous message.

After you install the KB918766 patch you need to make a change to the registry.

To enable this hotfix, edit the registry by following these steps.

1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.

4.Type FEATURE_HONOR_XUNSENT_IN_FILE to name the key, and then press ENTER.

5.Right-click FEATURE_HONOR_XUNSENT_IN_FILE, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.

6.Type msimn.exe to name the value, and then press ENTER.

7.Right-click msimn.exe, and then click Modify.

8.In the Value data box, type 1, click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
