[Update] Trillian 3.0 Final

T

techultra

With so many different chat mediums such as MSN Messenger, AOL Instant
Messenger, ICQ and IRC available today, there needs to be a single
unified program for people to communicate with. With Trillian, all
these chat networks are combined into a powerful, easy to use program.
Trillian currently supports AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, IRC, and now Yahoo
Messenger. The program can be skinned and has an easy to use modern
interface. Additional features include file transfers, Mail and Message
Alerts, EmotiSounds and more. The BEST multi-network messenger you can
find! Free for non-commercial use.

Wow, is that a correct download size???? Has Trillian gone from a
little under three (3)mb to a whopping almost ten(10)mb??? That's
kinda scary, ain't it?? What the hell could they add that would take
up that many bytes?? Think I'll stick with v0.74. Geeez, at ten
megabytes that puppy should wash and wax my 'puter, or at least cook
me breakfast! :)

That's the correct size. 3.0 looks and feels very slick indeed.
Also very confusing. I spent about an hour with it yesterday, and I
find it very unintuitive; even the connection manager seems like a
maze to me. I'm sure once one masters the preferences, it'll do
what's wanted, but I'm not going to try to master it. (It doesn't
help that /all/ the forum questions and answers about using it with
IRC are in a single giganto-thread.)

I'm used to the quirks of Trillian 0.74, and if I ever move it will
be to Miranda or GAIM rather to this bloatware.

I went from ICQ to Miranda and would never think of checking out
another client.
This is unusual behaviour for me.

Basic 3 is a nice looking version.
But I can't get it to save any settings I change; e.g., identity info, icon,
text-font color & size, etc. When I exit and restart, they are gone.
Running Win98SE.

Any ideas?

And WHERE would one FIND Miranda??? I did a goggle and didn't come up
w/anything slightly resembling 'trillion'.

It would be nice if folks gave a url when recommending stuff! And is
it freeware???

Trillian:

Trillian Basic 3 is the freeware version.

Miranda:

I've been trying out the new Trillian. It's been working well for me,
although, as has been pointed out, the installation file is considerably
larger than that of the previous version.

I've tried Miranda and haven't had good results with it. I'm attracted
to the idea of a small program whose functionality can be expanded with
plugins, but Miranda seemed buggy to me. Still, to each his own. Prior
to installing Trillian 3, my IM client of choice was Gaim
(http://gaim.sourceforge.net).

And WHERE would one FIND Miranda???

Put miranda into Google and go with the first hit?

Because you couldn't copy from the OP, or click on his link
It would be nice if folks gave a url when recommending stuff!

It would be nice if people who expect continual spoon feeding learnt
to use a search engine
And is
it freeware???

This is a freeware group. There are but a few here who think it is a
help group.

Good troll btw...

I've just put 'miranda' into the co.uk version of Google and the correct
site was the very first hit.
