update registry driver Failed!

I just recently updated to Vista (weeks ago) Today I started getting a
window that said "Update registry driver failed!" And just had an "OK"
button to click. I click on it and another window pops up. I have nothing
in the device manager that shows a "!" on the device. Nothing is mentioned
as to what update to what driver or registry entry failed. Has anyone seen
this? I am running 32 bit Vista Home Professional. No new hardware was
installed since the initial install.

I've never seen anything called a "registry driver". Drivers are for
hardware and the registry is pure software. Are you 100% sure this is
the exact text of the error message? A Google for "Update registry
driver failed" only brings me your post. Of course, I can't possibly
know everything (darn it!) so perhaps someone else will have heard of a
"registry driver" and this error message and we'll all learn something. :)

In the meantime, what is the malware/virus status of the machine? If you
think it is clean, what programs (and versions) did you use to determine
this?

Be sure the computer is clean:

You said you updated, so was this an upgrade from XP? Maybe you have an
incompatible program in there for viewing DVDs. That's about all I can
guess.

This was a clean install, no update. My thinking is that maybe the firmware,
if there is any, or the driver for the DVD cdrom is outdated or not
compatible. I am going to try to re-install the DVD-rom after I go to the
manufacture's web site to see if there are any updated vista drivers. If not
I will try to install the drivers through the driver store.
