Failed Updates

I'm trying to update Vista Home Premium, on a laptop I have just purchased.
Everything seems to have gone fine, apart from several updates which have
failed.

Some of the failed updates are:

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465)
Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB967912)
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB967723)
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB970710)

In total there are 43 failed updates, the majority of which are listed as
"Important". So, my question is how do I get these installed? I've
followed the troubleshooting tips but can't find any help here. I've
searched online, but nothing seems to help here either.

I've tried uninstalling them, but obviously since they aren't installed I
can't uninstall them.

Can someone advise?

TIA

I've had the same experience. Go to Microsoft site and download them by
number (KB948yadayada). These updates require your permission or acceptance
of some type of gobbledeegook agreement. It's a real PIA, but it's the only
way I've gotten the critters to install.

Prasad,

Error codes, or at least some of them, are:

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465) - Error
800F082F
Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB967912) - Error 80070643
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB967723) - Error
80072EFD
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB970710) - Error
800706BA

I'm trying the other steps you mentioned just now, and will post back with
the outcome.

I've tried the rest of your suggestions and the System Update Readiness Tool
installed one update...not sure which one...and the standalone SP2 informed
me that it is already installed.

Can I remove all the updates and start again...if so how? Or, is there
something else I can do to get these updates installed correctly?

TIA

Was the laptop new or second hand?

If second hand, it seems to have a damaged system and I suggest you
reinstall Vista with the recovery disk and update from there.

If new, get support from the supplier.

Loptop is new. But, why would it install some without a hitch, but not
others?

Is there a way I can remove all, and try again?
