Updates K8938371 & KB947864

I've been trying to process the following updates to Vista and each time I
try to do so, the updates failed:

"Update for Windows Vista (KB938371)" Failed 4/10/08

"Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 in Windows Vista
(KB47864)" Failed 4/9/08.

Would appreciate some advisement as to how I can get these updates processed.

Thanks

What's puzzling to me is that KB938371 states "Install this upate to enable
future updates to install successfully on all editions of Windows Vista"
Does this mean that because I can't complete this update, I may have problems
with future updates?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Since the Sec Cumulative IE KB947864 update fails to install:

Hopefully it will also alleviate the SP1 prereq installation issue, too. <w>

Don't feel like the "lone wolf" FL guy...I've got the same "failure" problems
and I'm from FL as well, lol's! When you try to get help, they give you
error #800736CC and then they list a slew of unrelated b.s. for a fix! From
what I've read, which is probably wrong...they say to install this you first
have to uninstall the SP1 :-( which doesn't make sense to me at all! That's
a rough update and besides that, the main reason for installing this update
from what I've read is that it will make it easier to uninstall the SP,
lol's!! I think I'm just going to have to bypass this IMPORTANT update
unless Microsoft answers my question regarding this update!

Good Luck & if you hear of any way to update this w/o having to uninstall
SP1, please post it..Thanks!

Hello BIGWOLF57,
This is what I've got regarding KB938371 :

Update for Windows Vista (KB938371)
Installation date: ‎4/‎8/‎2008 5:19 PM
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important
Install this update to enable future updates to install successfully on
all editions of Windows Vista. This update may be required before
selected future updates can be installed. After you install this item,
you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this
item, it cannot be removed.
More information:
'A software update is available for the Windows Vista installation
components' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938371)
Help and Support:
'Microsoft Help and Support' (http://support.microsoft.com)

PS. I don't have SP1. Don't want it.

t-4-2, thanks for the info although I think I've already tried to resolve
this about 8 times from the same page you referenced. You would think that
Microsoft would get their act together and cut down or consolidate these
constant updates, what a pain in the tail! Wish I didn't install SP1 but
then again, I just had to do a complete system recovery with OEM disks after
I lost my D:\ partition :-( I'm not a big-time computer "tech" fan needless
to say. Thanks again!
