I was asked to install a certificate before I could download.
I didn't want to do that, so I downloaded from here(link obtained from the
K-Meleon General Forum):
Three alternatives:

Yrrah, according to the K-Meleon website the browser is not fast, it's
"extremely fast". ;-)

Nobody disputes it's speed. What it's lacking is the ability to customize
it like Firefox via extensions, as well as the immediate security updates
one gets with Firefox.

It's kind of like it's the "Off By One" of the Gecko based browsers. Speed,
but little else to recommend it.

I have to disagree on this. To me there's not much speed difference between
FF and K-Meleon, but you can customize it to your liking just like you do
with FF. Flashblock, adblock, go up one level, etcetera.
It's the way you tweak it that's different, it's a bit of a learning curve.

Tsk. Ignorance is bliss.

Tsk. Ignorance is bliss.

Meaning what? Are you disputing my statement that it is not updated like
Firefox? Surely not. This last update was the first one since last spring
sometime, and we're not even sure that the updates included any security
fixes.

Or, are you disputing my statement that K-Meleon can't be customized to
the extent Firefox can? It can't, at least not easily. I searched the
pages at sourceforge.org, and found only a few themes, and some macros
that don't do anything I want done. K-Meleon does not support extensions
at all.

A Google search for "K-Meleon extension" turned up one hit. One. That was
at Mozillazine, and here is what is said there about K-Meleon.

"What happens if K-Meleon comes along and says "we require our extensions
to use this format"? Then Galeon says the same thing. "

Um, they have. They explicitely DON'T support any XUL extensions. They
are native frontend projects that don't use XUL at all. Not one bit of
XUL. I doubt they even support XUL in content (although I might be
wrong). You certainly can't install any Phoenix extension into Galeon or
K-Meleon that I know of and I've certainly not heard of anyone making a
K-Meleon extension work in Mozilla or Phoenix. They are all completely
different formats (for one thing, Kmeleon and Galeon have native code
frontends just like IE so they're "totally different and unrealted
applications" when it comes to frontend extensions). I doubt that any of
the "not quite frontend" extensions are interoperable either. Kmeleon and
Galeon don't even support the install mechanism for extensions like mouse
gestures."

K-Meleon does not support extensions at all.

It can be customized far more.

<snipped remainder of ignorance>

This is simply not true. Every time there is an update to Mozilla,
someone on the K-Meleon forum (actually many people) incorporate the
latest Gecko stuff into a build, so it is constantly being updated.
Just check the forum and you'll see what I mean. There are also many
varieties and builds with various features. In my experience, K-Meleon
gets updated faster than Firefox every time there is a change to the
Gecko engine, security or otherwise.

I use Opera as my default browser but I have always liked K-Meleon too
and many of its features, like Layers for example are useful. I've
just downloaded K-Meleon 0.9.12 and now starting to get used to it.

But, of course, you're not going to offer any information - just sit in
your ivory tower and call names, right? Good-bye.

The information is available at the K-Meleon site. I'm not going to
hold your hand, just correct your misinformation. Of course, if you
did your homework before shooting off your keyboard, you wouldn't
make yourself look like an idiot. Too bad it's too late.
