Update Error 0x800b0003

This one has me stumped. Everything points to a problem with Cryptographic
services, but other updates (namely, anything from Microsoft Update), work
fine. Running Windows 2000 SP4. I have the latest GDI+ in System32. Also
of note, Windows Defender updates do not appear on Microsoft Update for me
(and I have clearned temp internet files, shift-reload, etc). Any insights
would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Does visiting WindowsUpdate work? If not, then Windows Defender will also
fail. Looking here, I would recommend calling PSS since that error does not
happen often with WindowsUpdate.

No, Windows Update/Microsoft Update work fine. In fact, AU downloaded and
installed the new security patch updates last night.

Does visiting WindowsUpdate work? If not, then Windows Defender will also
