Unable to update....0x800b0003.

On Win2000 I get this error every time I try to update the definitions (they
are now 106 days old 1.0.0.0 )
" Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x800b0003. The form
specified for the subject is not one supported or known by the specific trust
provider."

Microsoft Update doesn't find updates either (I use "Custom" not Auto)
Tried uninstall, reinstall and all the remedies from:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822798
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=918355

Following advise of Bill Sanderson, given in a simmilar thread, I've looked
into
WindowsUpdate.log

1. Windows Defender update does not make any entry in there. (Just pops the
error message to the screen)
2. Microsoft Update (custom) finds 0 new updates. It does anter an error in
the log, but uparently unrelated to Defender (since it does it also with
Defender UNinstalled).
(see part of the log further down)

Question: is there any place to download from the latest definition file
and manualy copy it to the Defender's directory or wherever it should go????

I could not find the definitions on the Defender or Microsoft pages

I'm running Windows 2000 with all the updates.

Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1347.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1303.0
Definition Version: 1.0.0.0

Thanks,
VictorH

When the Windows Defender icon in the system tray showed an ! thru it, I
opened to the Defender Beta 2 Home page. It said that 'Windows Defender
updates hadn't been updated for 15 days'. Since I do not allow 'automatic
updates' I downloaded the latest updates manually, using the 'Help/about
Windows defender'download updates' link. Then a ballon in the system tray
gave the notice: 'Windows Defender is up-to-date with definitions and engine
upgrades'.
However, the icon in the system tray still shows the ! mark through it. I
rebooted my computer, and the ! was still there. I again opened to the
Defender 2[Beta 2] home page, and the same message still was there--not
updated for 15 days.
hat is going on here. My computer, is 2 months old, XP Pro, SP2 and came
preinstalled with Windows Defender.
I have not had this problem previously.
