I just installed Windows Defender and right after installing, it tries to do
an update (which you can also manually kick off by clicking on "Check for
Updates" from withing Defender), but I get the error

"Windows defender was unable to update : 0x800b0003". The form specified for
the subject is not one supported or known by the specified trust provider".

Quite helpfull error :)

Anyways, I unsinstalled and reinstalled Defender, still the same error.

I am running version
Windows Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1185.0
Signature Version: 1.0.0.0

On Windows 2000 SP4. I have the latest security patches and what not.

Since this is a beta version, no support from MS.

Anywhere out there have any tips.

I already tried the uninstalled the signature file from start --> run and
typing that big command, but that gives another error.

Hello Navin,

In general, if that KB (KB 915105) procedure fails with an error message,
the next thing to try is the Windows Installer cleanup tool:

Bear in mind there is no "single" solution that fits everybody's problems.

I already tried the Windows Installer tip which someone else had suggested.
They had asked to see if I was seeing two entries...one for the main program
itself and one for the signature file and then remove the signature entry.
But I did not see the signature entry, so accidently removed the main program
using Windows Installer and then I could not see Windows Defender in the
Add/Remove programs. Anyways, I re-installed Defender and it still gives that
problem.

Not sure what to do now, Panda ActiveScan is reporting around 130 spyware on
my PC, but it does not clean for free.
