Unwanted Popups

Fabian

I keep receiving popup ads on my screen (sometimes it
frezes the screen until I click ok)telling me that I have
to buy a program to stop that from keep happening. All
unwanted adds are from manufacturers who produce the
program who would stop this from happening again. It
seems to me, that is a way of coercion (if you don't pay
me, something is going to keep happening to you, by me or
my friends).
The popup window reads Messenger Service at the top and
points to a security problem from Windows.
How can I prevent this from happening, at this point I do
not care if I have uninstall messenger. I am not going to
pay the twenty or so dollars that they ask for it.
Is this legal? Is Windows doing something to prevent this
from happening to their customers?
Please, help before I throw the computer out of the
Window...
Thanks

anything else up? I HATE!!!!!! it...at least with AOL I
can disable IMs completely Thanks!

Right-click Messenger
Choose Stop
Right-click Messenger again
Choose Properties
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
