Unwanted log off

I am running Windows XP Pro and as soon as I select a user account to log
into the computer immediately logs me off no matter which account I use.
This also happens in Safe Mode. I tried to insert the Windows XP CD to get
to the Recovery Console but I cannot get past this initial problem. I can't
even get to a DOS prompt. Not sure what to try next.

Thanks.

I do not want to sound ignorant but I am having trouble. I cannot get the
BartPE to create a CD or I just do not know how to use it. Do I use the
Remote Registry from another computer that is connected to the troubled one
or what? I keep reading about making changes to the registry and such but if
I can't get into the troubled computer how do I do that?

Thanks. Jerry

Hi,

One of the difficulties here is that fixing this requires getting into the
registry of the affected system. Remote registry is the best way, but that
function needed to be enabled before the machine was messed up. If you can't
get into it this way, then using BartPE is the best, next way. After
downloading it, run the pebuilder.exe file in the installation folder.

Hi Rick.

I appreciate your help but I am having no success. I have gotten almost
everything off the troubled computer that I need so is there a way to blow
away the computer and just reinstall Windows? Just putting the Windows XP
Pro CD in does not work.

Thanks. Jerry

Hi Jerry,

What isn't working about putting in the disk? You should be able to boot
with it, agree to the license, start setup, and at the point where you
choose the installation location, instead delete the existing system
partition. Recreate it, format and proceed.
