Unwanted Internet Gateway

T

Tony Falzone

The computers on my home LAN connect to the internet
directly through a router. I do not use a shared
internet connection (gateway).

A couple of days ago an "Internet Gateway" connection
appeared. In the properties section this gateway
decribes itself as a shared connection to the internet
through another computer. I have religiously NOT
selected this alternative when adding computers to my
LAN, despite microsoft's advice not to.

How can I delete this? If I disable it all the computers
on the LAN lose their connection.

Sincerely,
Tony Falzone

If your router supports Universal Plug And Play (UPnP),
this is XP detecting the router. The Gateway would be
your router.

If you really don't want to see this, you can stop
the "SSDP Discovery Service" and the "Universal Plug And
Play Service" from Control Panel->Administrative Tools-
Services.

However, you will lose the benefits of your router
supporting UPnP by doing this.
