Unwanted folder keeps appearing on desktop

I created a folder on my desktop and used it for several
months. I decided I didn't want it there any more, and so I
moved it to the D drive. However, whenever I rebooted, the
old folder is re-created on the desktop.

Can anyone say what's going on and how to put a stop to it?

Thanks.

Talk to your system administrator about "roving profiles".

This is my home computer and I'm the only one who uses it.

The buck stops here, so I'd appreciate any further thoughts
on this.

Thanks.

You obviously have a process that restores these folders.
Did you check the "all users\Startup" folder? You could
download your free copy of AutoRuns from
http://www.sysinternals.com to see what tasks run at
startup time.

Another way of finding out what's going on goes like this:
- Find out exactly where the folder is.
- Delete it.
- Create a file of the same name.

When you start the machine next time, you will probably
get an error message, because your hidden process
attempts to create a folder of the same name as an
existing file. This might give you a pointer.

Your should also check your event logs.

maybe you dragged the folder to another drive, in which case
the default action is copy instead of move. probably not your problem,
but you never know...
