Files and Folders Reappear After Deletion on desktop

Hello..
i have windows 2000 advanced server with SP4 working as domain controller
and file server (all home folders and profiles are stored on it), My domain
users work on windows xp.
the problem is that when a user deletes some files or folders from his
desktop and logoff, the deleted items comes back when he logon again, even
files and folders deleted many months ago they appear on the user desktop.

is there any way to stop the files from coming back without using the
mandatory profile?

You probably have roaming profiles that are not working
properly. When the user logs off, his server-based profile
folder does not appear to get updated, perhaps because
of a permission issue.
