unwanted dial up

Can anyone help?
I recently found an unknown dial up symbol in
my 'internet options' (connections tab) underneath my
usual ISP symbol.I removed it immediately, but now I`ve
had a phone bill for £36 for a premium rate number over a
2 day period.
Is this something that`s been dumped on me, and if so can
I avoid it happening again?
Or have I (being a novice)done it somehow myself?

Thankyou

Hi Geoff,

Dialers are a bitch, and they are tricky as well. See if these pages help:
