Unsafe Removal of external SCSI device

Is there anyway to get Win2k to place an Icon on the tray, as with USB and PCMCIA, that allows the user to tell the OS that an external SCSI device is to be removed? The work around is simple to remove the device, run Device Manager, let it complain, and let it fix the world. While there is a check box to display such devices on the tray, it does nothing. Part of the problem is that the OS has no way to distinguish a fixed from a removable SCSI device.

For a truly removable SCSI device or a component of it,
such as a ZIP disk in a ZIP drive, an utility might have
been written for it, placing an icon on the desktop or
the taskbar. However, the majority of SCSI devices are
not really hot-swappable, esp. if they need to be started
with the computer bootup.
