Unread emails immediately marked for deletion on click

When I click on unread messages (bold, not opened yet)
they are immediately marked for deletion.
(The bold font is changed to grey, a line goes through the item)
This happens as soon as I click - I'm not even double-clicking.

The emails are not being marked as Spam and moved to the Spam folder. The
Spam folder doesn't have them. I've checked my spam filters and the "from"
address is not only not blocked, it's specifically allowed.

I have to "undelete" each email to keep them from being deleted. Once I do
that they are OK. But it's a huge waste of time and very annoying.

What's happening?

Do you have any rules specific to your IMAP account?

Thank you for replying and noticing that this is about my IMAP account.
Yes. I have several rules on several different IMAP accounts. This is the
only one that's acting up.
There are five rules in effect for the Inbox of this account, three for
incoming and two for outgoing messages. In order of application:
Rule 1: move incoming messages WITH X IN THE SUBJECT to the X folder
Rule 2: move incoming messages WITH Y IN THE SUBJECT to the Y folder
(Note: X and Y messages both come from the same sender)
Rule 3: move incoming messages from Z to the Z folder
Rule 4: move outgoing SENT TO A to the A folder after sending
Rule 5: move outgoing SENT FROM the receiving address associated with this
account to the SENT folder after sending

Do any of the problem messages fit the conditions of any of the incoming
rules? That would certainly mark unread messages as deleted in the Inbox.
Keep in mind that for your first two rules, "X" and "Y" ate subsctrings.
For example, if "X" were the word "corn" and a message arrived with
"popcorn" or "cornucopia" (or simply "corn") in the subject, then your rule
1 would apply, the message would be moved to the X folder and the Inbox copy
marked for deletion.

So, Brian, what now? You've left me hanging.
The problem is still there, and it's driving me nuts.
What's the point about Rules?
I have similar Rules in several other IMAP accounts, and they doesn't cause
this problem.

The only post of yours from 8/24 that I can see is the one that says "You've
left me hanging." The most recent post of your prior to that is from 8/22,
in which you describe five rules (without including the exact definitions of
those rules) and that post asks no questions. Please repost the messages
wherein you provide the details you describe above and and that contains
your request for clarification. Perhaps the newsserver dropped it.

what I'm asking him is, what the hell do the rules have to do with this

Only then did I notice that Rules 5 overlaps Rule 4.

I took out Rule 4 and the problem went away. You probably meant to imply,
"CHECK THE RULES FOR CONFLICTS" when you asked me if I had any rules on the
account. But I didn't pick up on that. I honestly had no idea why you were
asking me about the rules. That's why I felt "left hanging." In the future,
you might want to spell it out.

Rule descriptions for the five rules in effect for the Inbox of this
account.

Rule 1 (incoming notifications of subscribes to my list) : apply this rule
after the message arrives / with Foo.List subscription in the subject / and
on this machine only / move it to the Subs folder.

Rule 2 (incoming notifications of unsubscribes to my list): apply this rule
after the message arrives / with Foo.List unsubscribe in the subject / and on
this machine only / move it to the Unsubs folder.

(Note: messages for Rules 1 and 2 always come from the same sender)

Rule 3 ( incoming messages from a different list): apply this rule after the
message arrives / from Foo List / and on this machine only / move it to the
Foo List folder

Rule 4 (messages sent to a specific person): apply this rule after I send
the message / sent to Foo Name <[email protected]> / and on this machine only /
move a copy to the FooName folder

Rule 5: (messages sent from this account EXCEPT to my list): apply this rule
after I send the message / through the Foo Account account / and on this
machine only / move a copy to the SENT folder / except if sent to MyList
Address.

The question I asked was and still is, what could rules have to do with the
problem? I have many other similar rules in various other IMAP accounts, and
NO OTHER ACCOUNT IS BEHAVING LIKE THIS.

Wait - AHA! The light dawns...

I'm glad you discovered the problem. You are now an official expert on
using Outlook with IMAP accounts. This is not entirely tongue-in-cheek,
either. IMAP accounts are among the least used types and any experience
with them is a plus.
