Unmountable boot volume/repair problem

My PC keeps giving me the "unmountable boot" message. But when I put my Win
XP in to go to repair, it tells me that the XP on my computer is more recent
than the XP on the drive. (I bought my computer and software secondhand.) I
have both service packs and all the XP updates on my PC--can this be causing
the problem. If so, what should I do? Thanks!

If your CD is SP1 and you have installed SP2, it won't let you install.
You can use your CD to make a copy with SP2 integrated.
Search the newsgroup for slipstreaming sp2 or google it.
I don't have the instructions handy.
But it's not all that harrd.

Thanks! I downloaded SP2 from the sites recommended in a couple of articles;
however, my computer is telling me it's not a valid Win32 application and
won't open the file. I suspect I have the wrong SP2 (the one for several
computers instead of one); however, the only other place to get the
single-computer SP2 on the Microsoft site looks like it might add SP2
directly to the XP Pro already on my computer--and I upgraded to SP2 ages
ago. In short, where do I get the SP2 that will slipstream into XP Pro?

You have the correct version of SP2. You may have a corrupted download.
