Unlinked Files in Report View

During site maintenance, I opened report view to see any unlinked files.
There were some files that genuinely are unlinked and no longer in use. I
deleted those files from my server. However, there are other files that are
in use and are linked to other files on the site. Why would these files
appear as unlinked? Thanks in advance.

Are they linked using javascript for mouseovers etc??
They will always show as unlinked.

Unlinked files are those that cannot be reached by following "normal" links
from the Home page. Links formed by JavaScript etc. are not "normal" in
this definition.
