uninstalling win xp pro

i went to add/remove programs to unistall window xp but it is not on the list of programs so i could not initiate an uninstallation from there. the directions, to revert back to win 98 say that i have to reinstall win 98 manually. it doesn't say anything about how to clean win xp from my hard drive. i had the computer reformatted recently and when he installed the windows program he did so with the xp.......so the win 98 is not in the memory, or so i'm told. anyway, i know that i will need to reinstall win 98 manually and have done so before, but i want to erase the xp from my system all together....can anyone help me as to the steps i need to take to rid the computer of win xp.. i still have nothing but problems with it and i really don't need the extras not to mention running out of disk space...i also tried to run in safe mode by pressing the f8 button, but nothing happened and did not take me to bios. do i need to be in safe mode to unistall win xp? if so, how do i get there? and hoe do i get the uninstallation going. i have several win xp hotfixes in the add/remove program list, do i need to unistall these individually or don't they unistall when we do the uninstalling of win xp. my printer is not working either, so if there is a simple way of doing all this, i would appreciate any and all help...thank you tom for your input and i'm sure once i get started, everything will fall into place.....it's just gettin it going. i inserted the cd in to the cd drive but there was no option for uninstalling on it....help please...............and thank you all this is a great site to help us of such limited knowledge.......
