uninstalling apps not in uninstall c/p

I have XP Pro with SP1 and all other updates excluding SP2.

To clear some disk space I'd like to uninstall Microsoft
Publisher, and Windows Media Player v.9.

However neither of them appear in the uninstall c/p - I
don't know how to get rid of them without leaving loads of
broken registry links and shared DLLs etc. that are no
longer required.
