Uninstalling a Program

Lisa

I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional Tryout as well as Adobe Reader 7.0.8.
The Pro tryout has expired and each time I try to read a PDF file it tries
to open with Pro and I have to purchase or exit. I have tried numerous times
to unintall the Pro from Add\Remove Programs in the Control Panel but each
time it locks up. I've tried removing it in Safe Mode but I get a message
that it cannot be removed either because the PC is is Safe Mode or there is
a problem with Windows UnInstaller. Help!

Go to the folder it is installed in and see if there is an uninstall
program. Could be called unwise.exe or uninstall.exe and try that.

Under Programs, I see Adobe and under that Acrobat 7.0. Within that I find
Acrobat Reader 7 files as well as the Pro version but no uninstaller or
unwise.exe????

First of all, according to "How to remove Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional
Tryout" at http://www.ucok.edu/ssvp/wo/instruction.htm :

"This process will take from about a minute to as long as 30 min, it
depends on your processor performance and the speed of your connection."

So is it possible that "locking up" is merely a process that is taking
an awful lot of time?

As many people have experienced, Adobe is a major-league resource hog,
particularly a big problem on older PCs. Why don't you try Foxit reader?
Go to this site to learn more and download:

If you still want to use Adobe Reader, check out this forum:

http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/007183.html

It has very good advice, including how to download a leaner version of
Adobe Reader (AdbeRdr70_enu.ex) directly from the ftp site:

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/7x/7.0/enu/AdbeRdr70_enu.exe

And here's a speed-up tip:

Good luck!

Thanks for all the info Dave. In answer to your question, is it possible
that the process is just taking a long time, no. It completely stops. I've
checked the task manager. I will now look into all that good links you
provided. I asked for help at adobe forums and got no response so again,
thanks so much for the assistance!
